Vacation

I am so thankful that God has provided and will continue to provide for my friends and family to take vacations. But honestly, I'm a little jealous. They've done some restructuring of benefits where I work and we now have to use a 5-consecutive day vacation. This is good in the fact that we can get a larger break from the chaos; but for individuals like myself. I do much better with multiple long weekend recharging.

I'm very tired and am having trouble finding motivation in the supply closet. If someone knows where I can get some; please let me know. :-) Just needing a break...there's so much I feel like I need to do, but being at work from 8-5 M to F gets in the way. It's just a phase I'm going through and I am thankful that I have a good job and work for a good employer.

Please keep my sister and brother in your prayers they are still without work and it's going on at least 6 months.

I promise a more uplifting posting later...just had to vent a little. Lord give my your peace that passes all understanding.

Is Equality really Fair?

I don't normally speak a whole lot on political issues, but I truly believe that equality may not be fair.  Many people have sacrificed and worked very diligently to achieve what they have obtained and earned.  If too much is given away and not earned, then one doesn't learn. Here's a forward a received and it just communicates this idea so clearly.

"An economics professor a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.

The class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan." All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a 'B'. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a 'D'!
No one was happy.

When the third test rolled around, the average was an 'F'. The scores never increased as bickering, blame, and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when the government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed."

I looked up some scriptures on the subject of work and here's some of what God word says...

Ecclesiastes 5:18-19 'Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him--for this is his lot. Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work--this is a gift of God.'

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 'For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat.

I don't want to be equal; I want to work for what I make and contribute to those who need help. I do not want to be penalized for being smart with my money and time.

Birthdays

So this Sunday is my sister's 30th Birthday and I'm missing her a lot lately. But with her birthday approaching it reminded me of what she did to me for my 30th last year.
I was at work and it was about 10am and I got a delivery of about 30 balloons attached to a stuffed buzzard and gravestone balloons. But she made up for it later...she sent me a really nice bouquet of flowers about 3 pm. I'll probably never forget it and I still love her. Now what to do for paybacks. See pics.

Life, etc

So it's been a little while since I've posted. It's just too crazy. I work on a computer with three monitors and really have a hard time coming home to "play" on the computer. It's frustrating that work has blocked most website and my access to hotmail so I can't check my personal email or update status' on facebook.

But I guess overall it's for my own good. The last couple of weeks have been busy. I've been painting the trim and windows in our office at home and will move onto the hall way. We are trying to start working on little details in either modernizing the house or having things match.

We've replace the doorknobs downstairs and will work on the upstairs, soon. The project, however, that I'm not looking forward to is repainting the outside of the windows on the exterior of the home. It will involve scrapping with a metal brush and then priming and then painting. But it has to be done. Alas there's always something when owning a home. It totally beats living in an apartment for me though. ;-)

Derby Day 2009

So for those who have Kentucky Derby Parties...I would like to introduce you to the Cunningham/Edlin tradition that I've recently become a member of.

Every year for probably about 30 years Donnie's mother, Darlene, and Donnie's Father, Donnie started throwing a KY Derby Party.  There's normally about 30-40 people there, way too much food, and a lot of TVs so that everyone can see the horse races for the day.  Darlene works so hard to prepare food and get everything ready for that many people coming to invade her garage and home for the day.

My favorite site though...is what I'd like to share. There are these sweet little ol' ladies that all day sit, smoking their cigarettes, and placing their bets on the horse.  I just imagine what they would have been like ...probably all little spit fires.

It is a cute site considering they are all over 85.
It's like having a 4-6 fun grandma's...I'd do anything for them.

Happy Birthday continued

For Donnie's actual birthday we continued the tradition his mother started when he was 10 years old.  We went to Churchill Downs and watched the horses race.  This time his Aunt and cousin were able to get some tickets in the Turf Club. WOW. That's the way to do the track.  We were sat at a table beside a glass wall over looking the finish line.

It was very nice day and being able to spend it with Nana, Darlene, Murlene, Jamie and Donnie was relaxing. Below are a couple of pictures from that day.

The good thing is that Donnie won enough money to buy himself a new gas-powered weed-eater.

Happy Birthday my love!
